Banks and their reluctance to offer good service to the Customers
Most of the Public sector banks are not simply bothered about its customers. If you walk into any branch of any bank,to get some service, you are made to feel that you are not welcome. No seat is offered to you, and you seldom find a smiling face. The plight of senior citizens like me is much worse.
The banks are no doubt overburdened with various thankless jobs like government work. Tax deduction at source is one such nasty work. Depositors throng the banks with plethora of complaints that the tax deducted from them is not correctly deposited with government of India, even if correctly deposited the concerned data is not properly uploaded. Without proper uploading of data with correct PAN details, the tax deducted from you will not be given credit by Income Tax department( another unfriendly department)Citizens are put to genuine difficulty when they do not get credit for the taxes. When they approach the banks for help, the banks staff throws the blame on Income tax department. The standard reply is " we are getting the work done by outsourcing, we are help less, and the matter is very old, we do not have any records" The customer comes to the bank with such a complaint are treated as lepers.
Even if you are in bank to give business to them by depositing money in long term deposits, you are not welcome. The clerks at the counters are too busy to stare at you let along talk to you. The rates of interest on deposits are not exhibited, even if exhibited are not updated. You have to patiently wait till you are given a reply by a condescending officer/clerk. I have given at least 15 deposits worh about Rs. 15 lakhs, in last few months and everytime I am looked at like a new customer by the same clerk
The requests for non deduction of taxes by of declarations are not properly kept, not acknowledged, not submitted to banks regularly. As a result tax is deducted from the interest earned by you, and you have to unnecessarily made to file a return of income with income tax department and wait for a few years to get your refund, provided your data is properly uploaded by the banks

My Recent visit to Himachal Pradesh and Punjab
During 13th 18th December I was on business/holiday tour.
Went to Baddi in Himachal Pradesh via Chandigadh and visited my client's Chocolate factory. The new industrial town is buzzing with activity. Industrial houses from all over the country opend up their shop to lap up the incentives offered by Himachal Pradesh Government.
Went to Parwanoo, in Himachal Pradesh to argue a case before the income tax department. Met a nice, courteous, decent and straight forward officer. My job was done in no time. It is nice to see such young men, and I felt India indeed is in safe hands of the next generation. Today's youth need to be reminded , that there is a great world out there beyond money( Thanks to Gurucharndas in India Unbound)
Visited Amristhsar, by travelling 4 hours on wonderful roads and greenery. Golden Temple the abode of devotion and service and the ultimate of Sikh religion. It is very well maintained and devotees are disciplined and well behaved the organisers should be congratulated for maintaining the decent surroundings.
Jalianwala Bagh the standing monument of the then rulers' cruelty is well maintained and one suddenly goes down deep into the history , offering tributes to Uddam Sing, the famous patriot linked to this part of history, who took vow to avenge the brutal act but actually killed Sir Michale O'dwywer instead of the real criminal Genral Dyer
From there went to Waagha the border post on Indo Pak borders in northern India. At 5.00 PM every day crowds gather to watch the parade by raising slogans. I think this type Hangama creates pseudo patriotism and promotes intolerance in the gullible public.Organisers ask you to raise your slogan mongering and booing while our neighbour's flag is honoured and national anthem is sung. Is it true patriotism?
I am reminded of Anatole France, QUOTE " THOSE WHO HAVE GIVEN THEMSELVES THE MOST CONCERN ABOUT THE HAPPINESS OF PEOPLE , HAVE MADE THEIR NEIGHBOURS VERY MISERABLE"
Jalandhar seems to be rich town with lots of business activity, and the villages of Punjab is expecting a good harvest this season with Sarson ka saag and makki ki roti waiting in the kitchens. Amrood ( mana jaama kaayalu) orchards and sugar cane fileds are abundant. I had an occasion to visit the native village of the cab driver who guided me in this tour, and meet the elders of his family and get their blessings and good wishes.
It is a short and purposeful trip to me, and I thank my client and friend Mr. Devabhaktuni Durga Prasad who organised this tour and foot the bill

ఉర్దూ - తెలుగు నిఘంటువు
ఉర్దూ - తెలుగు నిఘంటువు వొకటి ఉన్నదని పుస్తక సమీక్ష లో చదవంగానే పరిగెత్తుకొని వెళ్లి ఆ పుస్తకం కోనేసుకొని ఇంటికి వచ్చి తనివీ తీరా తిరగేసి ఎంత ఆనంద పడి పోయానో , మాటలకందని వో అనుభూతి. ఎమెస్కో వారి గొప్ప ఆలోచన కి మనం జోహారులు చెప్పవలసిందే.
మా మూలుగా డిక్షనరీ అంటే వో ఇంగ్లీష్ /ఉర్దూ/హిందీ/ పదం దానికి తెలుగు లో అర్థం ఉండటం మనకు తెలిసిందే. ఇలాంటి పుస్తకాలు ఉపయోగించాలంటే మనకు ముందు గా ఆ భాషలో కొంచం ప్రాథమిక మైన పరిజ్ఞానం ఉండాలి, ఆ భాష చదవటం తప్పని సరిగా వచ్చి ఉండాలి. మరి ఉర్దూ రాని నా బోటి ఎంతో మందికి ఉర్దూ పదాల అర్థం ఎలా తెలుస్తుంది?
అలాంటి ఇబ్బంది ఇక లేదు. ఉర్దూ చదవటం రాని ఎక్కువ మందికి ఈ పుస్తకం ఎంతో ఉపయోగం.
ఉర్దూ పదాలని అకారాది క్రమం లో తెలుగు లిపి లో వ్రాసి, ఆ పదం అర్థం తేలిక గా అర్థం అయ్యేలాగా మనకు అందించారు.
చిన్నతనం నుండి హిందీ సినిమా ల లోని ఉర్దూ పదాలు అర్థం తెలియక కొట్టు మిట్టాడి, ఉర్దూ తెలిసిన మిత్రులని వెతుక్కొని వేడుకొని, వారి కి వచ్చీ రాని తెలుగు లో చెభ్తే, మనకు దాని అర్థం తెలిసే టప్పటికి, తల ప్రాణం తోక లోకి వచ్చేది.
రచయిత గారికి పలు భాషల లో ఉన్న పరిజ్ఞానం, ఈ పుస్తకం వినియోగ దారులకు నిజం గా వరమే, ఉర్దూ, దానికి దగ్గర గా ఉన్న పారశీకం, అరబ్బీ పదాలగురించి కూడా మనకు అవసర మైన మేరకు తెలుస్తంది.

నా నేస్తం , నా సచివుడు , నా గురువు సమ్మోహన రావు
మా మోహన రావు గారు మమ్మల్ని వీడి 21 ఏళ్ళు పూర్తి అయ్యాయి. మా జీవితాలలో వెలుగులు నింపి అయన అదృశ్యమయ్యారు. కొంత మంది కొందరికి మాత్రమె అర్థం అవుతారు , అలాంటి వారిలో మోహనరావు గారు వొకరు . ఆయనను ఎంతో అభిమానించి , అయన నుండి ప్రేమను పొంద గలిగిన వారిలో నేను కూడా ఉండటం యాదృచ్చికమే. మా అనుబంధం వో పదేళ్ళది, మాత్రమే అయినా దాని గాడత చాల ఎక్కువ. ఆత్మీయంగా పలకరించటం., ఆప్యాయంగా భుజం మీద చేయి వెయ్యటం, నొచ్చు
కోకుండా మందలించటం,అవసరమైన సమయం లో సలహా ఇవ్వటం , రోజు వారీ వ్యవహరా ల లో మా నిర్ణయాలను మన్నించటం , ఇవన్నీ నన్ను ఆయనను మరింత చేరువ చేసినవి. ఆయన బాల్యం లోని మధుర ఘట్టాలను నా తో పంచుకునే సమయం లో ఆయన ముఖం లో కనపడే వెలుగు వర్ణనకు అతీతం, అలాగే అయన తన మిత్రుల నుండి పొందిన సాయం గురించి చెప్పే సమయం లో ఆయన గొంతు లో జాలువారే ఆత్మీయత నాకు మార్గదర్శకం. వో బీద పల్లెకారు మిత్రుడు ఆయనకు తన ఇంట్లో భోజనం తినిపించిన వయనం విని తీర వలసిందే. ఎప్పుడయినా క్లబ్ లో అయన ను కలవడానికి వెడితే , అక్కడ దొరికే వివిధ టిఫిన్స్ ని నాకు కొసరి కొసరి తెప్పించే వారు, తినమని పట్టు పట్టే వారు. కారు లో వెళ్ళే సమయం లో మంచి మొక్క జొన్న కండెలు కనపడితే వెంటనే ఆపి మా ఇద్దరికీ కొనే వారు, తింటూ డ్రైవ్ చేసే వారు. ఇలా ఎన్నో మధురమైన అనుభూతులు మానసం లోకి నిత్యం వస్తుంటాయి. నిజంగా మోహన్ రాగమే మా మోహన్ రావు గారు.

Malathi Chandoor
50 ఏళ్ళ కు పైగా తెలుగు చదువరులకు వో దిక్సూచిగా ఉన్న మాలతీ చందూర్ గారిని ఎంత పొగిడినా తక్కువే అవుతుంది . నేను ఆమె అజ్ఞాత శిష్యుడిని. నా డిగ్రీ లు నన్ను వో సంపాదన పరుడి గా చేస్తే నన్ను వ్యక్తి గా తీర్చి దిద్దిన మహత్తర శక్తీ శ్రీమతి మాలతీ చందూర్ గారే. ప్రముఖ ఆంగ్ల సాహిత్యాన్ని తెలుగు లో నా నోటి కి అందించి నా విజ్ఞాన ప్రపంచాన్ని విస్తృత పరిచింది ఆమె. మా అమ్మా , అక్క అన్నయ్య, నా చిన్న నాడే నాకు ఈ అమృతాన్ని గురించి బోధ చేసి కలశం అందించారు. అంతే నేను వో క్రొత్త లోకం లోకి అడుగు పెట్టాను. స్చూల్స్ వదిలి కాలేజీ కి , కాలేజీ వదిలి వృత్తి విద్య లోకి ఆ తరువాత వ్రుత్తి లోకి వచ్చినా ఆమె అక్షరం నాకు మార్గ దర్శి . సాహస ఘర్బం లో సాహస యాత్ర నుండి స్కార్లెట్ పిమ్పెర్నేల్ , 80 రోజుల్లో భూ ప్రదక్షిణం నన్ను వో విశాల సాహితీ ప్రాంగణం లో కి తీసుకు వెళ్ళాయి. తెలుగు అనువాదాలే ఇంత బాగుంటే వీటి ఆంగ్ల మూలాలు ఇంకెంత బాగుంటాయో అని నా లో జిజ్ఞాస పెంచి నన్ను ఇంగ్లీష్ నేర్చుకొనే లాగా , ఆ పయిన , ఆంగ్ల సాహిత్యం చదివి ఆకళింపు చేసుకొనే లాగా, ఆనందించే లాగా నన్ను మలిచాయి ఈమె రచనలు. నేను అమెరికా వెళ్ళటానికి వో ఇంటర్వ్యూ కు వెళ్ళ వలసి వచ్చింది, ఆ ఇంటర్వ్యూ లో నాకు వెన్ను దన్నుగా నిలిచింది నా లో ఆమె రగిల్చిన ఆసక్తి . నాకు ఇప్పుడు 62 ఏళ్ళు ఆమె క్రమము తప్పకుండ వ్రాస్తున్న పాత కెరటాలు స్వాతి మాస పత్రిక లో నాకు నిత్య పారాయణాలు. నా లాగే ఎందఱో అభిమానుల్ని ఆమె తనకు తెలియ కుండానే అక్కున చేర్చుకున్న శ్రీమతి మాలతీ చందూర్ గారు ఆరోగ్యం గా ఇలాగె అందరిని ఆనంద పరచాలని కోరుకుంటున్నా. కోతి కొమ్మంచి లో ముళ్ళ పూడి వారు చందూర్ దంపతుల తో తన అనుభవం గురించి చదివినప్పుడు నా కళ్ళు
అప్రయత్నం గా చెమ్మగిల్లాయి, ఆమె మంచి మనీషి కూడా అని తెలుసుకొని మరింత ఆనందించాను.
